Argentine player Juan Pablo Caffa has announced this month his retirement at the age of 35, following his time at MLS side Fresno.
Spanish outlet Sport Aragon managed to make a long interview with him, having spoken about his entire career. And it turns out they’ve recalled that he nearly signed for Chelsea many years ago.
Caffa had impressed in his first years at Boca Juniors, even before making it to the first team. That’s when he went to an international tournament and drew attention from the Blues.
“The truth is that few people know this. In a tournament we did in Europe with Boca, Chelsea looked at me and I’ve been with them. I trained with the first team for almost a month,” Caffa tol Sport Aragon.
Interestingly, his time at Boca Juniors didn’t last long. He was soon loaned to Ferro for one and a half years, until the end of his contract with the Buenos Aires side. He later signed as a free agent for Arsenal, not the one from London, but from Sarandí.
In 2007, he finally made the move to Europe, and since then he’s played for Real Betis, Real Zaragoza, Asteras Tripoli, Defensor, LDU de Loja, Universidad Catolica, Roughnecks and finally Fresno.
