Emilio Izaguirre’s situation at Celtic has been described as a ‘terrible nightmare’ by the Honduran press on Friday.

The left-back hasn’t been getting any playing time under Brendan Rodgers and La Prensa have highlighted the player’s issues at the SPL club.

The Honduran news outlet says this is one of the worst starts to a season in his career, and reports that ‘although it’s hard to believe’, he still hasn’t played any minutes in the league or in the Champions League.

Izaguirre has played only 117 minutes this season since Rodgers was brought in as the club’s new coach. He had 27 minutes against Lincoln Red Imps in Celtic’s Champions League qualifier, and a full game against Motherwell in the League Cup.

The player spent some time out of the team during the middle of last season, but ended up regaining his spot, finishing the campaign with 25 appearances. But things have changed a lot since Brendan Rodgers’ arrival.

He refused to comment on his future during his summer vacations. When asked about his market situation by El Tiempo in June, he said: “I don’t want to talk about Celtic, I have a contract for two years with them, only they will know what will happen, then I think of spending these moments relaxed with my family and waiting. God knows what will come for me.”

Izaguirre signed for Celtic from Montagua in 2010 for €750k. The 30-year-old has made 236 appearances for the club so far, and his contract runs until June 2017.
