After a super season with Real Betis last year, Giovani Lo Celso does not have a shortage of suitors this summer.

Tottenham Hotspur are particularly keen and have been trying to get a deal for the Argentine over the line for the past few weeks.

That is yet to happen with Betis’ asking price of €75m for the player seemingly the stumbling block to any potential move.

ABC Sevilla have covered the story from Betis’ side today and explain what’s going on and why they are holding firm on such a high valuation.

They explain that Lo Celso has made it clear he wants to ‘continue to grow and progress’ with a club that plays regularly in Europe, particularly the Champions League.

Real Betis cannot offer him that and, after seeing his ‘desire’ to move, came to a verbal agreement with the player that they would only accept a sale if it was worth €75m or more.

If anything less than that arrives, the club would have to negotiate with the team ‘closest’ to that valuation and Lo Celso or convince him to stay until the January transfer window.

The newspaper reasserts that Tottenham have ‘insisted a lot’ on signing Lo Celso and that the move may still happen but there is a long summer ahead before any deal for the Argentine is completed.
