Despite being regarded among the best right-backs in world football at present, Juventus seem keen to get rid of Joao Cancelo this summer.
The Portuguese full-back barely put a foot wrong for Juventus after signing last year, but the Serie A giants seem keen to move him on.
Perhaps it’s a case of the 25-year-old being a saleable asset, or it could be down to him not fitting Juve’s style of play. Although, that would be odd given they’ve hired an attacking manager in Maurizio Sarri and Cancelo is a superb attacking full-back.
Whatever the cause, Juventus want to sell and according to Calciomercato, have now made his departure a priority. In fact, they believe that Juventus could prioritise getting Cancelo out of the club before June 30th.
Manchester City are particularly keen on the Portugal star, which we explained in detail yesterday. So far, negotiations have hit the buffers, and the asking price seems to be the biggest issue.
Juventus want €60m for their man and City’s bid is seemingly nowhere near that, by all accounts. In fact, Calciomercato claim that Juve are trying to ‘close the gap’ between the two figures.
The problem for Manchester City is that they need to get rid of Danilo first. Juventus aren’t keen on taking the Brazilian as part of any deal for Cancelo, and that is acting as ‘a cork’ in the transfer pipeline.
Until City can make some progress on getting Danilo out of the Etihad, which won’t be a quick process since there’s not even a rumour of a potential move for him, they won’t be able to push forward with a move for Cancelo.
Fabio Paratici, Juve’s Sporting Director, is looking at other ways of moving him on in the meantime.
