This may seem strange, but there’s not a great deal on Paul Pogba in today’s Madrid focused sports newspapers.
Sure, he’s on the front page of AS surrounded by sumo wrestlers, yet inside there’s no big claims. The Spanish newspaper says Ed Woodward’s telephone ‘didn’t stop ringing’ after Pogba’s comments about a transfer, and they claim the Manchester United chief has told Mino Raiola the player isn’t for sale.
Woodward has been thrown into full transfer mode by Pogba’s come-and-get-me-plea, and right now he’s playing tough on the exit.
That’s all they have to say of their own, with the rest of the article talking about a BBC feature on the pros and cons of selling Pogba.
Over at Marca, there’s not one article focused on the Frenchman. He’s mentioned in passing as part of a two page feature on Real Madrid or Barcelona potentially signing Neymar. That’s it.
He’s not getting the full-on treatment he may have expected.
El Confidencial say an agreement is ‘very far away’, because of the Premier League club’s reluctance to sell, and the difference in valuations should they agree to negotiate.
It’s even suggested Pogba’s comments may have been too much, too soon, because Florentino Perez is clear there’s no point in going to war with big clubs these days, he feels the market has changed and so his approach has done the same.
Perez doesn’t want to ‘upset’ Manchester United, and also doesn’t want to pay the huge fee it’s believed would be necessary, instead looking at something like €120m plus bonuses.
