Wolverhampton Wanderers star Diogo Jota could soon be making his debut for the Portuguese national team.
The winger, who had previously been called up for the Euro qualifiers back in March, didn’t get a chance to play that time, and could now make his first appearance in the Nations League.
Diogo Jota was chosen to hold a press conference on Friday, and spoke a little about the feeling of being getting his first chances to represent his country.
The player has claimed explained he faces a natural process, since he wasn’t obsessed about making the squad.
“I’ve worked all season to be here. Neither was waiting nor was surprised, it’s something natural in view of my evolution this season,” Diogo Jota told the local press (via A Bola).
“Things can’t be done in a hurry. All in good time. I’m sure that if I continue my work the way I’m doing it, the opportunity will come.”
With ten goals and seven assists for Wolverhampton this season, the 22-year-old is happy for the campaign he’s had with the club.
“Of course the season went well for me and my team. I think it’s all a process of evolution and I feel like I’m evolving. I want to become a regular presence in this squad of the national team. And help Portugal get as far as possible.”
With the company of Rui Patrício, Ruben Neves and João Moutinho in the national team squad, Jota feels at home along with his Wolverhampton teammates.
“Being with players with whom I’m with daily helps, especially the first time, but I already knew some of the other levels, like the U21s.”
