In what could be the very first story of its kind, a Chelsea player actually wants to be loaned out to a Dutch club next season.

Normally sent around Europe to get some first-team football under their belts, the youth players at Cobham do so because they have to rather than it being their desire.

However, for Charly Musonda Jr., next season is one of redemption, and he plans on showcasing his ability at Vitesse Arnhem, where he also spent the current campaign.

Unfortunately for the Belgian, he got injured before he could make an appearance for the Erdevisie side, subsequently missing the entire 2018-19 campaign.

Speaking to HLN, the 22-year-old, now back at Chelsea to undergo the last stages of his rehabilitation, explained his intentions.

He said: “I want [to be loaned to Vitesse again next year]. The agreement hasn’t been finalised yet, but that’s my wish.”

Once lauded as the next big thing, Musonda’s career so far has been plagued by both injuries and inconsistent seasons.

With 10 years of football (and maybe a bit more) still ahead of him, there’s still plenty of time to turn things around, and if he can do it in the Eredivisie, that will be a great first step in the right direction.
