Barcelona’s interest in signing Antoine Griezmann was firm last summer, but the forward decided to stay with Atletico Madrid and signed a new contract.
The World Cup winner’s release clause has been set to €200m, but the figure will drop down to €120m from July 1st onwards.
Earlier today, we covered a report from Mundo Deportivo, who explained the 27-year-old’s environment has contacted the La Liga winners to express the former Real Sociedad star’s desire to join the Camp Nou club.
AS once again mentions Barcelona, but the France international is not a priority for Ernesto Valverde’s side and the club’s supporters have made it very clear they’re not keen. The player is looking for a new destination and AS say another possibility could be Manchester United.
Manchester United were reportedly keen on landing him in 2017, but due to Atletico’s then transfer ban, Griezmann decided to stay with the side managed by Diego Simeone.
It is claimed that Atletico could try to sell Griezmann before the asking price drops from €200m and should it reach €120m, then interested clubs will not have to negotiate a fee with the Europa League winners for the player.
When Manchester United, or any other club, would consider paying more than €120m is mystery. Maybe to avoid competition, but the player will know he’ll get better wages the lower the fee.
