In 2016, Romain Saiss left French club Angers for Wolverhampton Wanderers when the latter were in the Championship.

Last season, The Morocco international made 42 appearances in the second division and was one of the key players for his side as they achieved promotion to the Premier League.

When he joined the English club, the 28-year-old signed a four-year deal and last month he signed an extension lasting until 2021.

Saiss, who is a versatile player as he can feature as a defender or in the midfield, gave an interview to Le Matin and explained as why he committed his future to Wolves.

“Yes, I think it [Wolves] is the right place to continue my career. I arrived here with the club’s project, which was to go up to the Premier League,” Saiss said.

“We achieved it. Now, I want to be part of the current project, which is to sustain the club in the Premier League. That’s why I came too. So, it was obvious to me to extend my contract here.”

After making it to the top flight club competition, Wolves have made several quality additions to their squad.

Saiss gives an insight on his side’s goals for this season.

“We knew that the owners had ambition. At the beginning, it was a question of achieving the promotion and staying in the Premier League. After, it is true that we are in a good momentum for this first season,” he said.

“We will see how the season will end and whether we will win a European place or not. But we do not make it a priority.

“The main thing was to make a very good first season and to maintain ourselves quickly. That’s what we did.”
