It should take at least a month until Gabriel Barbosa starts being seriously linked to Premier League clubs. That’s because his loan spell at Brazilian side Santos only ends in December, and that’s when Inter Milan can officialy negotiate him again.
But at least one thing about his future is now clearer: he’s very unlikely to stay at Santos. The player confirmed it to the Brazilian press after the match against Palmeiras.
Asked if he could continue at the club for the next year, Gabigol said: “Very complicated, I’ll be honest. I’m going to enjoy these last games, because they might be the last.” (via Globo Esporte)
The Brazilian media has been a bit quiet about the options the player has in Europe, especially because some Brazilian clubs are keen on him.
But last week, it was claimed that Crystal Palace, Everton and West Ham are all willing to sign him, and the player himself has confirmed his wish to return to Europe.
With agent Kia Joorabchian said to have the Premier League as a preference, that would give these clubs an advantage in the race. Inter Milan don’t seem so keen on keeping him, and €20m could be enough to take Gabigol for good.
The 22-year-old is currently the top scorer of the Brazilian league with 16 goals.
