Earlier today, we covered a report from Mundo Deportivo, who claimed that Barceona could be in ‘war’ with Paris Saint-Germian for Ajax’s Frenkie De Jong and his teammate Matthijs de Ligt.
Monday’s edition of the same publication has a story about De Jong and they suggest the above mentioned sides are not the only clubs interested in the Dutch international.
One of the clubs interested in the 21-year-old is Manchester City and the Premier League winners are ready to spend big to make sure they beat the competition to secure his services.
The report claims Manchester City have already informed the Eredivisie outfit they are ‘willing to exceed €70m’ for the versatile player, who can also feature as a centre-back.
Pep Guardiola has the services of Ilkay Gundogan, Fernandinho, Kevin De Bruyne, Fabian Delph, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Phil Foden as the central midfielders in the squad. The German has struggled with injuries, the former Aston Villa man has been used as a left-back and the latter two lack experience of playing at the top.
Based on the current situation, it makes sense for the English champions to spend big on De Jong, but it is too early to suggest who will be able to acquire his services.
