Two days ago, Tottenham Hotspur’s Fernando Llorente gave an interview to Mundo Deportivo in which he admitted returning to Athletic Club Bilbao was one of his options next summer, just like a switch to Italy or a move to another English club.
His contract at the north London side runs down after the end of this season and his father had earlier ruled out the possibility of his son signing a new deal with Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
The 33-year-old came on as a substitute in his side’s 4-2 defeat against Barcelona in the Champions League and after the match, he spoke to Cadena SER in the mixed zone, when he was once again asked about the possibility of returning to San Mames.
“Back to Bilbao? Bilbao is my home and if I have an offer from Athletic, it is clear that I would value it… Why not?” Llorente explained.
It looks like the Spurs frontman is unlikely to receive an offer from the La Liga outfit especially after the Basque club’s president, Josu Urrutia, made clear on Wednesday that there’s still some annoyance over how he left on a free transfer for Juventus.
“We always repeat the same before possible signings. We have to be aware of sports monitoring to see what can improve our staff. Llorente, in his time, rejected an offer of ours that was impossible to refuse, and preferred another one. That has happened,” the Basque club’s chief said.
