It’s fair to say Alexis Sanchez’s move to Manchester United hasn’t worked out well so far.
Arriving in a swap deal for Henrikh Mkhitaryan, having been so close to signing for Manchester City instead, Sanchez’s piano playing unveiling was wrapped in huge excitement.
Here was one of the best players in the Premier League, and Jose Mourinho would have a star to help him take the team forward.
For the second half of the season it didn’t really work out that way, and then it was assumed everything would be better in the current campaign.
Again, things aren’t going well.
Chilean newspaper La Cuarta points out this is Sanchez’s worst goal drought for a decade. They explain he hasn’t scored in 759 minutes and the last time that happened was at Udinese.
It’s raining criticism, state La Cuarta, and whilst they say that mainly comes from the ‘always acidic British press’ there’s an acknowledgement things aren’t going well for the Manchester United player.
Backing him up is Sanchez’s former coach at Udinese, Francesco Guidolin, who has told the Chilean newspaper the footballer will get back to his best and suggested there’s been other issues at the club making things difficult: “He is a great champion. He has the qualities to succeed at Manchester United, but he still needs to adapt to the team’s game.
“It’s been less than a year and the club has had many problems. When situations happen like is, the stars are those that are more exposed to criticism. But in no way are the capabilities of the Chilean in doubt.”
