Freshly qualified for the Europa League group stages after seeing off Gent, Bordeaux were hoping to use their new status to add some talent to their squad before the end of the French transfer window.
One of the names on their wish list was apparently Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham, who spent last season on loan with Swansea.
Needing a new forward after sending Gaetan Laborde to Montpellier, much to now ex-manager Gus Poyet’s ire, the Ligue 1 side seemingly saw an opportunity to perhaps loan the 20-year-old.
However, according to L’Equipe journalist Emery Taisne, there’s a lot of doubt surrounding the potential transfer, as he took to Twitter to explain he had been told ‘not sure it will happen’.
The reason behind this is said to be Abraham’s parents, who are reluctant to see their son go to the south of France.
Why that is isn’t revealed, but with Aston Villa also said to be sniffing, perhaps a stay in English football is preferential to the player and his entourage.
One to keep an eye on, though.
