Even though on Thursday the Portuguese press was pretty confident that Ryan Gauld was close to making the move from Sporting to Aberdeen, the scenario has completely changed today.

The newspapers were claiming that some Liga NOS sides were interested in having him on a loan deal, but his wish to return to his home country would be decisive in the move.

However, things started looking unlikely when Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes claimed that ‘there’s nothing in the Ryan Gauld story’ speaking at a press conference on Thursday.

Now today, the outlets who reported the chase have nothing about the player. The only newspaper who mentions him is Correio da Manhã, and Aberdeen aren’t even named this time.

Correio claims that despite offers from abroad, Gauld should end up staying in Portugal, where some club is set to sign him on a loan deal.

Gauld signed for Sporting in a €2.75m move from Dundee United back in 2014. He’s only made five appearances for the club, and had loan spells at other Portuguese sides such as Vitória de Setúbal and Aves.
