Loaned to Marseille from Tottenham for the season, Clinton N’Jié appears unlikely to continue at Spurs beyond this season, if France Football’s hints this week are correct.
The French magazine suggested the player was a part of Rudi Garcia’s plans at the Ligue 1 club for the 2017/18 campaign, meaning his €7m option to buy must have been triggered, representing a considerable loss for Daniel Levy, who authorised the £12m purchase in 2015.
Scoring four goals and picking up one assist for Marseille this season in 22 appearances in all competitions, many have questioned whether the 23-year-old is good enough to stay in the French side, a doubt confirmed by fans very recently.
Over at Le Phoceen, a football website focusing primarily on the Ligue 1 side, a poll was posted asking fans whether or not the Tottenham loanee had a future in the south of France.
The results? 82% of those taking part said his time with Marseille had come to an end, meaning the club should move on.
The problem here is, if they have paid, or will pay, Tottenham the €7m for his services, N’Jié has done very little to convince other teams he is worth spending money on this summer.
With the amount of recruiting Marseille are likely to do in the summer, all the Spurs loanee can hope for in 2017/18 is a rotation role, which he’ll have to work for.
