It feels like every time there’s a mention of Wojciech Szczesny in the Italian press, very little has happened, but there’s always that little tidbit of information that suggests an exit to Juventus is getting ever closer.
The Arsenal goalkeeper’s chance of signing for the Serie A champions was tied to their success in getting rid of Gianluigi Buffon’s Brazilian alternative, Neto, who is on the verge of signing for Valencia in Spain.
Now that’s out of the way, and with the Italian side pocketing somewhere around €7m, turning their attention to getting a deal for Szczesny is the next step, even if there is some work to do to find a compromise with the Gunners.
Gazzetta dello Sport on Friday explain Arsenal’s demands of €15m are still seen as too high by those in charge in Turin, yet there is an 80% chance of a deal getting done.
This backs their previous claims that some sort of deal could be struck between the €5m Juventus had offered and Wenger’s price, and if the odds of it getting done are that high, that shows the confidence the Italians have in knocking the price down.
We’ll have to wait and see, but, for now, Szczesny remains an Arsenal player.
