After Diego López, Chelsea are reportedly interested in another Serie A goalkeeper. The blues have been keeping an eye on the Udinese youngster Alex Meret, according to local reports.

TuttoMercatoWeb say the 19-year-old’s name has been much commented talked about in the transfer market, and now Chelsea are the latest club to ask about the goalkeeper.

But Udinese are not planning to sell him now and and gave Chelsea a “clear no”.

The website says that Meret’s most likely destination is to spend the next season on loan at Vicenza. Udinese want him to have more minutes playing, as he only made two appearances in 2015/16, but are not looking to transfer him permanently.

Chelsea’s intentions would almost be to sign Meret and then loan him out themselves, and that may not be the most attractive option for the youngster.

Young footballers are beginning to get wiser and realising their career progression may not always be helped by signing for a top club club and then spending years out on loan elsewhere.
