Barcelona continue to negotiate their way through summer transfer business, mainly looking at low cost operations.

Mateu Alemany was brought in as the club’s director of football for this summer, being the chosen one for president Joan Laporta.

Some transfer business has already been completed, yet the hardest tasks will come when it’s time to negotiate transfer fees, both for Barcelona incomings and outgoings.

Pep Guardiola is currently taking part in a golfing event in Spain, and he’s been speaking to the sports media. As ever, there was more interest in the manager’s opinions on Barcelona than what’s happening at Manchester City.

Having been asked about Alemany’s impact, Mundo Deportivo quote him as saying: “Mateu will do a great job for sure, yesterday I spoke with the president and he is very happy with the work he is doing.”

That would certainly put a positive slant on the director’s transfer work, and Guardiola is also backing Ronald Koeman.

The Dutchman has been under a lot of pressure recently, and Manchester City’s manager believes he should be given more time: “It has been a very difficult year, but Barca have played very well for a good part of the season. Ronald deserves a year with people in the stadium.”

On the free transfers of Sergio Aguero and Eric Garcia from Manchester City, Guardiola said: “They are two very good signings.”
