IFK Göteborg director Jesper Jansson has admitted they are looking at Aston Villa’s Rory Wilson this summer.
Friday’s print edition of Goteborgs-Posten covers comments from the director. He admits that the Aston Villa youngster is one of the names on their shortlist.
IFK Göteborg with money to spend
IFK Göteborg have money to spend before the end of the window. Several sales from the squad have helped to fill their coffers with welcome funds.
There has also been the boost of money from Europe following sold out home games against Levadia and Gent and bonuses from varying qualifying rounds.
“It is clear that this gives us a little more security and a little more space. We have gained a little more stability now and we are not going to rush off in any way,” explained Jansson.
“An ambition we always have and try to keep is to think one, two and three steps ahead. It is clear that we have a budget to work with, and it is not always the case that the more is the better. Even though we have received additional resources, we will not rush off on anything now.”
While there could be more outgoings, there is also the potential for additions, ‘reinforcements are being looked at’.
Striker hunt
The hunt for a striker is growing in particular. Current striker Max Fenger has ‘physical problems’ which he is yet to overcome. So now the Swedish side are on the hunt for reinforcements.
“We have had a bit of a messy year,” admitted Jansson.
“Now we have Ramon (Pascal Lundqvist) who is on sick leave and then we have (Max) Fenger who is hanging in the air a bit and we will see his development on that. Those are also pieces we are working on.
He was then asked for specifics, with ‘English information’ regarding Aston Villa striker Rory Wilson put to him.
“I do not want to go into what we are looking for during the window,” he concluded.
“Yes, what can I say? If we are interested in a player, only a fraction of them make it to the media.”
