As Liverpool seek a replacement for Jurgen Klopp, we today get to see interesting news from Portugal on their quest.
Journalist Bruno Andrade writes that even though the Reds have Bayer Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso as their priority, Sporting boss Ruben Amorim is also an option.
It’s said the Lions’ boss is ‘highly rated’ by Liverpool and he ‘will be called for an interview’ at some point.
Andrade adds that the Reds aren’t the only club who are interested in taking Amorim to the Premier League, as Brighton & Hove Albion also see him as an alternative for the possible departure of Roberto De Zerbi.
Following his jobs at Casa Pia and Braga, Ruben Amorim took charge of Sporting in 2020, and in his first full season there, they won their first league title in 19 years.
They’re still in the race for this season’s trophy, although they’re now chasing Benfica, who currently sit top of the table.
The manager already claimed he would like to leave the Lions in case they don’t win a major title this season, and it indeed seems like his time in Portugal could be coming to an end.
Now we’ll see how serious Liverpool are in their interest in taking him to replace Klopp, and it could all depend on how their attempt to get Alonso goes.
