Towards the end of the summer transfer window, Chelsea were strongly linked with a move to sign Antonio Nusa from Club Brugge.
The story is easy to forget, given that the Blues tried to sign so many players over the summer, succeeding with quite a few of their operations.
Nusa is one of the ones who got away and he’s now spoken about Chelsea’s efforts to add him to their squad.
Currently in Marbella with his club preparing for the second half of the Belgian season, following a much enjoyed winter break with family back home in Norway, the 18-year-old has sat down for a chat with HLN.
Inevitably, what happened during the summer was a topic of conversation, and Nusa was asked outright about Chelsea and their €30m effort to sign him on August 31st.
The youngster replied: “We had a match, Osasuna at home I think. I knew about their interest, but I was not informed about the offer. After the match I turned on my phone and the messages kept coming. The news had leaked. I was shocked, but we had actually decided much earlier to stay in Bruges anyway.”
HLN wanted comment on the amount, with €30m being a huge offer to sign a teenager from Belgian football: “It surprised me too. I thought, ‘Wow, that’s a lot of money.’ However, we had known for some time what we would do, so it didn’t cause me much stress. You think about it, but all in all I remained calm.”
Nusa and his camp had already decided that another season at Club Brugge would be the best plan for his career, and he insists he wasn’t tempted: “Honestly, I never thought for a moment: ‘Maybe I will do it.’ Another year of Club was the plan anyway. Even now this winter you never know what will happen, but that plan has remained unchanged.”
HLN tried their best to get Nusa to say he looks out for Chelsea results, but he insists there’s nothing special in that regard.
Regarding a move in the next summer window, the attacker, who has mainly played on the left for Club Brugge this season, thinks there’s a ‘very high’ chance of that happening.
