It would not be surprising if Feyenoord star Igor Paixão ended up at Liverpool this summer, as he’s already potentially better than Cody Gakpo.
That’s according to former Dutch football Rob Jacobs, whose comments on the forward have been relayed by 1908.nl.
Paixão has been in superb form for the Dutch side this season, with 11 goals and 15 assists in 38 games in all competitions so far.
He also impressed in the Champions League, with several impressive performances ad two goals and four assists in 11 games very much putting him on the radar.
It’s been a steady rise for the 24-year-old since he joined the Dutch side in a €4.5m deal from Brazilian side Coritiba FC in August 2022, with 32 goals and 25 assists in 120 games to date.
His performances have led to increased reports that a big-money move may be on the cards this summer, with several sides in Europe believed to be keeping a close eye on him.
Liverpool have already been brought into the mix thanks to Arne Slot, who managed the Brazilian winger for 81 games at Feyenoord and saw him score 21 goals and register 10 assists in that time.
Jacobs can certainly see Liverpool being interested and believes Paixão is already a better player than Cody Gakpo.
“Then I’ll go for Paixão,” he said when asked to choose between the two players.
“I really think he makes Liverpool stronger. Arne Slot must also be enjoying his development. Gakpo is of course also a fantastic player and is doing well at Liverpool, but I think Paixão is better.
“It wouldn’t surprise me if Liverpool were to report to Feyenoord. Man, €40m or €50m? They don’t make a fuss about that in England.”
