Today’s edition of Portuguese newspaper A Bola today has some interesting news for Manchester United fans.
In the past few months, when speaking of Sporting defender Gonçalo Inácio, the local press had always said the Lions’ wish was to keep the player for another season, as he’d only leave for the price of his release clause, and they’d rather sell other defensive players instead.
Today, A Bola comes up with a different slant, this time saying the centre-back is one of the candidates to leave, and it’s only really Manchester United who are labelled as a potential destination for him.
The newspaper mentions that there are ‘echoes’ that clubs like the Red Devils are ‘sharpening their claws’ to simply trigger Gonçalo Inácio’s €60m release clause before the end of the month.
Manchester United are said to be going for the more expensive option. That’s because Ousmane Diomande, who plays alongside Inácio, has an €80m release clause, but isn’t considered untouchable and Sporting are prepared to him go for €50-60m.
The Red Devils want the Portuguese player, though, and could soon be making their move. Obviously, this transfer looks dependent on what happens with Jarred Branthwaite.
