Over the past couple of weeks, Real Betis have stepped up their efforts to sign Mateo Joseph from Leeds United.
Last week saw claims from the UK state an agreement had been reached between the clubs, before that was rubbished by media close to Betis and it became clear someone had been trying to jump the gun.
Sunday’s edition of ABC Sevilla reports Betis want to reach a personal agreement with Mateo Joseph’s camp before then trying to get an agreement with Leeds United. They’ve spoken to the player’s entourage and agents, according to the report, and are trying to convince the player that Betis is the best destination for him.
Then they plan to use the 21-year-old’s desire to put pressure on Leeds United to reduce their asking price. Initial contact has been held between the clubs, and without stating a price, ABC say Betis believe the figures are too high given Mateo Joseph isn’t a major player at Elland Road.
Leeds United would surely rightly respond that it’s the player’s potential which is the most valuable aspect. He’s currently at the U21s Euros with Spain and should he do well there then Betis will find their task more difficult.
Mundo Deportivo report Leeds United are asking for €13-15m.
