Over the last few weeks, Benfica’s Talisca has been linked with a move to Liverpool and, much more strongly, Wolverhampton.
While a move to Liverpool always seemed to be a bit unrealistic, the player was apparently close to signing for Wolverhampton, despite that also seeming unrealistic.
There have been reports Talisca has been finding it difficult to obtain a work permit, and that was the reason for a delay of his transfer to the Championship side.
However, a week ago, Portuguese media outlet O Jogo reported The Football Association had accepted Wolverhampton’s request to register Talisca in the Championship, but the player was still waiting for a work visa to fly to England.
There seems to be a plot twist. Latest reports in Turkey suggest the player has signed for Besiktas on loan. In fact, according to NTV Spor, Besiktas have signed Talisca on a two-year loan deal.
NTV Spor say Talisca is expected to undergo ‘medical examinations’ in the coming days before signing a contract.
The Portuguese press have been led down a lane on this one, it’s not something they’ve come up with themselves. Talisca moving to Wolves has had repeated obstacles thrown in the way of it, none of them appearing to be properly researched.
The Portuguese media appear to have little idea that work permit guidelines for footballers in the UK have changed, and that always puts doubt on their claims, being such a basic thing.
On Wednesday, claims came from Portugal saying Talisca wasn’t enthusiastic about signing for Wolves and playing in the Champions. In Turkey he’ll get top flight football as well as a big salary.
