With the English media this week writing that Wolverhampton Wanderers are close to signing João Palhinha from Sporting, we’re still to see a confirmation from the Portuguese press on those claims, but it’s interesting to see that they’re convinced this transfer could happen.
Newspaper O Jogo features a piece claiming it’s nearly guaranteed the midfielder will ‘change air’ this summer, as there’s an ‘intense’ pursuit from European clubs.
Following the claims saying Wolves want to pay €25m for Palhinha, the outlet writes that the player already knows he’ll ‘hardly stay’ at Sporting for one more season.
For now, however, he’s with the national team and ‘doesn’t want to listen’ about a potential transfer, as he wishes to focus on his comeback to international football.
O Jogo also points out that Wolves are not the only club pursuing Palhinha this summer. It’s said that ‘many bids and approaches’ from Europe’s main leagues have been arriving at Sporting.
Despite Palhinha’s €60m release clause, it’s also claimed that the Lions already decided they’ll sell him for an amount ‘way below’ that. So perhaps what the Molineux side have to offer will indeed be enough to convince the Lisbon club of a sale.
