Wolverhampton Wanderers have made a €5m plus €1m offer for FC Nantes defender Bastien Meupiyou but need to up that bid to get their man.
That’s according to journalist Fabrice Hawkins, who says the French side have rejected the initial proposal from Gary O’Neil’s side.
According to his information, Wolves have already secured an agreement in principle with the 18-year-old defender but are yet to strike an agreement with Nantes.
It seems they want more for the centre-back, who only made his debut in Ligue 1 last season and went on to make seven appearances across the campaign.
Wolves have something of a problem at centre-back at present after selling Max Kilman to West Ham, leaving them with Toti, Santiago Bueno, Yerson Mosquera and Craig Dawson as their central defensive options.
It’s questionable whether the 18-year-old is the answer to the issue, but a first bid has been submitted either way.
Interestingly, Meupiyou is represented by Gestifute, who are of course led by Jorge Mendes, who’s had a long list of players at Molineux down the years and still represents the likes of Rayan Aït-Nouri, Gonçalo Guedes, José Sá, Daniel Podence and Nelson Semedo.
Perhaps that’s where Wolves interest here is coming from, although they seemingly need to offer more money if they are to get a deal over the line.
