Wolverhampton Wanderers are keen on signing FC Nantes’ Bastien Meupiyou this summer, according to a report from France.

The 18-year-old graduated from the Ligue 1 side’s youth system and made his first team debut in September. He suffered an injury in October 2023 and missed the rest of last season.

According to Ouest-France, the defender has been preparing for the new season with the French club.

Meupiyou has less than a year left on his deal and Nantes manager Antoine Kombouaré warned in July that he will be sold in this window, if there’s no renewal.

“He has to extend it, otherwise he will leave,” Kombouaré said.

Wolves have already made their first offer, but the amount hasn’t been mentioned. The report says Gary O’Neil’s side have ‘positioned themselves’ to sign the centre-back with a second bid of €4m.

Ouest-France have made no mention of Nantes’ response to the Premier League side’s second proposal.

The France U18 international is managed by Jorge Mendes and the super-agent has close ties with Wolves. Mendes could be at work to place the youngster at Molineux in the next few weeks.
