Even while enjoying some time off in Brazil, Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Matheus Cunha couldn’t escape Manchester United rumours.
As reported by Globo Esporte, the player is currently in João Pessoa, and on Monday night watched his favourite club Botafogo-PB beat Athletic.
That was a Brazilian third division game, and still, the Premier League was a topic as soon as journalists saw him, as he was asked about switching Wolves for Manchester United.
Cunha first talked about attending the match, and tried not to give the rumour much attention.
“Whenever I can, I come along. I always want to show that (the affection) is reciprocated. Then we see that talk (Manchester United). But I’m very happy at Wolves.”
The player also tried to make it clear that he’s not looking for a way out of Wolves.
“My focus is on resting and making the most of my time with my family. I’m very happy at Wolves. The focus now is on having better seasons and helping the club.”
Cunha also shared some excitement about his last season for the Molineux side: “God willing, I’ll continue on this path”.
The striker had 14 goals and eight assists in 36 appearances for Wolves in their recently concluded season.
The rumours about Manchester United’s interest in Cunha came from the English media, with the Red Devils looking for a replacement for Anthony Martial, and a back-up option for Rasmus Hojlund.
Cunha was left out of Brazil’s squad for the Copa America and will be enjoying his holidays in the coming weeks, hopefully without too many people bothering him about transfer rumours.
