Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Gonçalo Guedes is on loan at Benfica and Villarreal are keen on signing him in the winter market.
Earlier claims stated the Portuguese club hadn’t given the green light to cut short his loan stay and it was causing delay in the winger’s arrival at the La Liga side. There seems to be progress made in this operation, according to O Jogo.
It’s claimed the Wolves owned player is ‘very close’ to joining Villarreal on a loan deal with no purchase option. They add that only a ‘few final details’ are left to be finalised, for the deal to take shape.
Friday’s AS have blamed the Eagles for delaying this operation. There was an agreement in place, likely between the Portugal international, Villarreal and Gary O’Neil’s side, for the last 10 days and only Benfica’s approval was needed to conclude the deal.
They wanted to wait until they signed a replacement before letting the 27-year-old leave.
Benfica have identified Benjamín Rollheiser as a target and AS say his signing has been closed in the last few hours, which has opened the door for Guedes’ transfer.
It’s explained that the Wolves man will arrive in Spain today to carry out medical tests with the Yellow Submarine and join them on loan until the end of this season.
The newspaper adds only medical [and the official announcement] is pending for Guedes to reunite with his former manager, Marcelino García Toral.
