Portugal U21 manager Rui Jorge has included Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Rodrigo Gomes in his squad for the ongoing international break.
Esperanças play two friendlies against Romania and England U21s on Friday and Monday respectively.
The Wolves player may be doubtful for the clash against Romania U21 after not taking part in Wednesday’s training session.
O Jogo on Thursday state Jorge didn’t have every player at his disposal as Gomes was the ‘notable absence’ from yesterday’s training session.
The Federação Portuguesa de Futebol [Portuguese FA], via their official website, provided a short update on the 21-year-old’s absence. They state the wing-back wasn’t part of the full training session as he was allowed to work on his fitness.
On February 9th, Gomes started Wolves’ FA Cup win over Blackburn Rovers and it was his last appearance for the club. A hip injury forced him to spend 23 days on the sidelines.
The youngster regained fitness but was an unused substitute in Wolves’ last two league games. It needs to be seen whether he’ll be available for the two friendlies with Portugal U21.
Gomes has played 20 games in all competitions for Vítor Pereira’s side this season.
