It’s now been four days since Raul Jimenez was announced as a Wolves player, but it’s still possible to find stories about him in the Portuguese press.
Today, it’s Correio da Manhã who highlights the Mexican striker, talking about the ‘luxury substitute’ he had been for Benfica in the past few years.
The story shows that despite spending most of his time on the bench, Jimenez had been pretty important for the Eagles in the title campaigns of 2015/16 and 2016/17. The newspaper even points out that maybe if he had a better 2017/18 season, Benfica could have won their fifth league title in a row.
Raul Jimenez has made 120 appearances for Benfica, 86 of them coming from the bench. That’s why he only had 36 average minutes per game, which kind of makes his 31 goals for the club not look bad.
Now loaned to Wolves for a €3m fee until the end of the season, Jimenez could still become Benfica’s biggest sale ever.
That would depend on the Championship winners activating the €38m buying option they will have for him at the end of the season.
But will Nuno Espírito Santo use him as a regular starter or a super sub?
