In search of a new centre-back, it appears that Wolverhampton Wanderers have set their sights on Santiago Bueno, currently contracted to Girona.

This is according to SER Girona Sport journalist Nil Solà, who took to Twitter on Tuesday to reveal the news about Wolves’ intentions.

It’s said that Girona are now ‘negotiating’ with the Premier League side for the sale of the 24-year-old, who has a €25m release clause in his contract.

Now, it’s worth pointing out that if Wolves had triggered this clause, then they wouldn’t be negotiating with the La Liga side, meaning that whatever was offered will likely be less.

However, there appears to be some confidence that a deal will get done, because Solà adds that if nothing changes in the coming hours, then the player ‘will set course for England’.

Bueno was sidelined for the first two games of the season with a hamstring injury but returned to Girona’s squad for the 2-1 win over Sevilla, only to remain on the bench, likely as a precaution.

Previously contracted to Barcelona from 2017 for two years before heading to Girona, where he has become a huge part of their team as he made 34 appearances in La Liga last season, picking up one assist along the way.
