Currently loaned by Wolverhampton Wanderers to Benfica, Gonçalo Guedes couldn’t take part in the celebration party of the Eagles’ league title.
The forward went on Monday through a knee surgery which left him out of the event, according to Portuguese newspaper O Jogo.
The outlet writes that Guedes is now set to have a recovery which is expected to last three months at most, and is expected to return to the pitch by the start of September.
What everyone wonders is whether Benfica would want to keep him from Wolves for the next season, and the answer is apparently yes.
It’s said the idea is to renew his loan from the Molineux side, especially because he may not be in Julen Lopetegui’s plans at the Premier League club.
The injury gives more confidence to it all, because O Jogo state it could potentially give Benfica a ‘better chance’ of getting a deal done while he recovers from the knee issue, as he could then get the ‘possibility of relaunching his career’ with the Portuguese side once he’s recovered.
That’s something Wolves will need to evaluate.
This is the second knee surgery Guedes had this year after going under the knife on the same knee back in March.
His contract with the English club runs until 2027.
