Unable to find any sort of happiness at Wolverhampton Wanderers under Julen Lopetegui, Rayan Aït-Nouri was heading towards an exit this summer.
However, the change of manager might have put a spanner in those works, as Gary O’Neil immediately chose the left-back as his starter for the season opener.
That doesn’t mean Aït-Nouri wants to stay forever at Wolves, though, as Nice-Matin in France report the player is still a target for OGC Nice, who have been trying to get him all summer.
It’s recalled the Ligue 1 side made him their ‘number one choice’ earlier on in the window, but negotiations with the Premier League side ‘are dragging’.
The fact O’Neil chose to use him also isn’t great news for Nice, who were hoping for a loan with an option to buy, because Wolves might be less inclined to be generous if he is to be a regular under the new manager.
Still, it’s pointed out that Aït-Nouri is ‘motivated’ at the idea of a move to the south of France, but with the recent developments, there is no guarantee this will have the positive ending he and the French club are hoping for.
That’s why they have moved onto an alternative target, Sergio Akieme, just in case.
