Wolverhampton Wanderers have ‘just accelerated behind the scenes’ to sign Paris Saint Germain striker Hugo Ekitike this month.
That’s according to Le 10 Sport, who say the striker has ‘always had a weakness’ for the Premier League and could be tempted into the move.
They explain that Ekitike is on the agenda for several sides in this window as he looks to secure a move away from PSG, who have made it clear that he is not a part of their plans.
Wolves are one of those in the mix and reports over the last week have indicated they are battling competition from Germany to secure his signature.
Le 10 now report that according to their sources, they have ‘gone on the offensive’ in the last few hours and ‘directly contacted’ the player and his entourage before speaking to PSG.
The Parisian giants are more than willing to listen to a proposal and have made it clear they want to part with the player, either on loan or in a permanent transfer.
Wolves have indicated they are ready to ‘move up a gear’ and get things going properly, with the main obstacle currently the striker’s wages.
He made a ‘monumental leap’ in wages when he joined PSG and while Wolves have resources available, and more than the competition from Germany, they can’t match what he currently earns.
Ekitike will therefore need to make an effort to secure the move, but the positive news is that he’s always shown a predisposition to the Premier League, suggesting he may be willing to help things along.
