Napoli’s Antonio Vergara is attracting attention from Tottenham Hotspur, who may have to hurry to land the winger.
The Italian had an impressive spell with the Partenopei in the middle of the 2025/26 campaign. Amidst Napoli’s injury crisis, he got some regular minutes under Antonio Conte and at one point, looked like a key player for the side.
He scored a great goal against Chelsea in the Champions League, also finding the net against Fiorentina and then assisting against Genoa. Soon, interest from clubs rose and Sport Witness covered how Tottenham tried to sign Vergara towards the end of January. This approach was rejected but the player’s situation is attracting attention again.
Spurs have a chance to sign him, although their task is much more difficult than it was in January.
Como also pushing for deal
CalcioNapoli24 report that Vergara could be considered a sellable entity in the summer. Everything will come down to whether formal offers actually come forward, especially as the attacker is a product of Napoli’s youth academy. Anything they earn from his sale will go down as a capital gain.
The outlet also report on Tottenham’s interest, and go on to relay Il Mattino’s information.
The Naples newspaper clarify that it is Como who are stepping up their interest in Vergara. Cesc Fabregas is quite keen on the winger and the lakeside club have initiated contact with the player’s entourage.
Napoli are willing to execute a sale for around €30m and Tottenham would have to meet that asking price. So far, no clubs have spoken to Napoli formally.
Il Mattino share the same stance as CalcioNapoli24, noting that the 23-year-old can indeed be sold. Italian clubs often sell their young talents due to it being pure capital gains.
Deal likely a gamble
While Vergara made a mark when called upon, an injury stopped him from proving his consistency. He returned to action later in the season but didn’t get regular starts.
That should raise question marks about his consistency and fitness. While he could yet turn out to be a star, it could be a case of over-performance too. That is possibly what Napoli want to capitalise on and sell him for as much as possible.
Skillset wise, he adds pace to the attack, can play on either side and also has a reliable work-rate.
