Martin Baturina impressed in the second half of the 2025/26 Serie A season and has now attracted Aston Villa’s interest.
The winger will play for Croatia at the World Cup in the summer. It comes at a vital point in his career, as the attacker scored five league goals and racked up three assists in 2026. This led to him becoming one of Como’s key players, as he helped them qualify for the Champions League.
Back in January, Sport Witness closely covered Leeds United’s interest in the Croatian. Their approach was rejected, with the Whites having tried to sign Baturina back in 2024 as well.
Aston Villa are now being strongly linked in Italy.
Approach rejected
Gazzetta dello Sport today report on the Como star’s situation, noting how he is attracting interest from Bayern Munich. The German club are facing competition from Aston Villa, who are said to have made a formal offer already.
Unai Emery’s side have bid between €50m and €55m for Baturina. This was rejected by Como and this is very much in line with what they have done for other players.
The newspaper note that Tottenham made a huge offer for Nico Paz in January. Everton have tried to sign Assane Diao but their approach was also sent back. They valued the two players at much more than what suitors were offering and the same is true for Baturina.
Now, they value the winger at €80m, with another unnamed English club also having made an offer. That too was rejected, with Como standing firm once again.
Como aren’t keen on exploiting opportunities of capital gains at this point. They are operating in expansion mode and will only consider major sales once they have established themselves at the highest level.
Villans may be being used
While Como haven’t made a major sale, interest from English clubs helps them establish massive prices for their best players. The timing for Baturina couldn’t have been better, as they know he can star at the World Cup.
Aston Villa’s chances of landing him seem low. Como will play in the Champions League next season and won’t be forced into a sale.
If the 23-year-old really wants the transfer, he may have to push for it.
