Mexico manager Tata Martino has said Wolverhampton Wanderers star Raul Jimenez will be given minutes in a friendly against Sweden this evening to test his fitness ahead of the World Cup.
The striker has been out of action since August with a hip problem that has seen him miss 47 days of actions and nine games for Wolves.
He’s faced a race to be fit for the World Cup since pulling up with the injury, with many fearing he wouldn’t be ready for the tournament.
Wolves and Mexico have been working side by side to ensure that is not the case and Jimenez has spent much of the last month or so in his homeland working with experts to try and ensure he is ready for the tournament in Qatar.
There has been a steady stream of reports regarding his status, with the situation flip flopping with every passing day.
Yesterday we covered a report that stated he was set to be tested in a friendly against Sweden this evening, in which it was explained that Martino and his team will fully assess the striker and then decide whether he is in the squad or not.
Martino has now confirmed as much, explaining that the decision has been taken following a conversation with the Wolves striker.
“We took the decision with the evolution he had, what we talked to him about, with the medical staff,” Medio Tiempo report him saying at a press conference.
“It was just waiting for his response, although he still did not play football against an opponent as will happen tomorrow, the answers in training were good, tomorrow he will surely have minutes.”
