Gustav Isaksen’s development at FC Midtjylland has caught the attention of several clubs across Europe and the list includes Newcastle United and West Ham United.
The Hammers had scouted the forward in action for the Danish club last month. They are now looking at him, along with the Tyneside club.
On October 28th, we carried a report from Calciomercato.it, who explained Newcastle and West Ham have the 21-year-old in their sights.
The Premier League duo and Isaksen’s other suitors have received encouragement after the Danish club’s officials opened the door for his sale.
Midtjylland CEO Claus Steinlein has confirmed interest from England, but didn’t name the Magpies, David Moyes’ side or any other club specifically.
The chief, however, has made it clear the fee his side will need to part ways with the Denmark U21 international.
“We have made an agreement with Gustav, his family and agent that he will stay until the summer, and then we will sell. However, the offer may become too large, and I fear that it will,” Tipsbladet quoted Steinlein as saying.
“I was made aware a week ago that the biggest sale in the history of the Superliga is €20m, and if he has to leave, we have to beat it.”
“It is realistic when you look at what has happened in the last week, and you know which clubs are looking at him. It could well be really exciting, and otherwise he will have to stay at FC Midtjylland for half a year more.”
“It’s everything from clubs in England and Italy that have an interest in him, and there were also many scouts in the stadium for the match who spoke other languages than Danish and Bornholmian.”
“There are no concrete proposals, but there is a lot of talk about him. We will definitely have to decide whether he should be sold or not.”
Midtjylland director of football Svend Graversen has given an interview to TV2 Sport X, where he admitted that Isaksen will change clubs.
“It is clear that we are seeing a young man who has performed very well in the Superliga – and not least very well in the Europa League. So, there is no doubt that there is something going on in the young man, and that is only wonderful,” Graversen explained, relayed by Tipsbladet.
“The good thing about Gustav is that he knows very well himself that he has a lot on which he can develop at Midtjylland, and that it is still an interesting scene for him. But there is no doubt that he will leave. But when that will be, we will have to see.”
It remains to be seen whether Newcastle or West Ham will make an offer for the Dane in the winter market.
Isaksen has scored seven goals and registered three assists from 24 matches this season.
