Tottenham Hotspur agreed a deal with Udinese for Destiny Udogie in the summer and immediately loaned him back to the Italian club in the same transfer window.
Operating as a left wing-back, he has excelled for the Serie A side this season and has contributed three goals [two goals and an assist] from 11 league matches.
Prior to joining Tottenham, a few other clubs had come forward to sign the 19-year-old and this includes Juventus and Inter Milan. This detail was revealed by the player’s agent in September.
The Italy U21 international’s development at Udinese is likely to benefit Spurs when he returns to the club after this season.
Wednesday’s Corriere dello Sport have published an interview with Udinese chief scout Andrea Carnevale, who has been credited with helping the club identify young talents who then went on to move to bigger clubs.
When asked how Udinese identifies talent, Carnevale detailed the work gone behind in identifying Udogie.
“There is a large scouting network, it is much more difficult to work with Udinese than with Roma or Inter. We do an excellent job, we go to get strangers who in two or three years become first-class players,” the Udinese official said.
“Molina, De Paul, Udogie are the latest examples. Udogie will leave us in six months, he will go to Tottenham.
“He’s 19 years old, a precocious boy, he only played 7 matches for Verona, they were enough for us to understand that he had quality. Great physique.”
Udogie will be hoping the loan spell at Udinese will help him settle in quickly at Tottenham once he arrives at the club next summer.
