The international break giveth and the international break taketh away.

Shortly after covering the Austria media lauding Maximilian Wöber as pretty much the main man for his country against Slovenia last night, we stumbled upon the Spanish media trying to bait Mateo Joseph into saying he wants to play in La Liga.

The 20-year-old has a Leeds United contract running until June 2028, having extended his deal earlier this year. He’s been a regular fixture under Daniel Farke this season, with two assists and one goal in four appearances.

Born in Santander, he’s now winning fans in Spain, especially after yesterday.

Friday saw the youngster star for Spain’s U21s, as they beat Scotland 2-1. The other goalscorer was Dean Huijsen and that the pair got the win is getting big coverage in Spain, after Joseph decided to represent Spain earlier this year and Huijsen picked them over the Netherlands.

Joseph had been on the pitch for less than five minutes when he scored the winner, so now everybody wants a piece of the Leeds United player.

After the match, Onda Cero tried to bait him into saying he wants to play in La Liga, and the youngster replied: “Spain is where I grew up and who knows if I’ll be able to return in the future.”
