West Ham United manager Julen Lopetegui is thinking about a reunion with Sevilla’s Youssef En-Nesyri but prefers Atlético Madrid’s Samu Omorodion.
That’s according to Mucho Deporte, who say while Lopetegui would be happy to see his former player arrive at the London Stadium, West Ham are currently giving priority status to Omorodion.
They explain that En-Nesyri is not the first option, but the Atlético forward is after his successful loan spell at Alavés this season.
Lopetegui believes he can get even better performances out of him than he’s shown and feels the system he is planning on playing at West Ham would be ideally suited to a tall number nine such as him.
He is even encouraged by the fact Omorodion is only 20 years old, meaning there is plenty of room for development and progress down the line.
Mucho Deporte have therefore learned that West Ham would be willing to pay €29m plus €10m in potential bonuses for the striker, although this won’t be enough for Atlético, who want €40m so they can go after Artem Dovbyk.
There’s work to be done then but the desire is there and perhaps fuelled by Lopetegui, who would be more than happy with the deal should it go through.
It also means En-Nesyri is not close to West Ham for the time being, with their focus elsewhere in Spain for now.
