Earlier on Monday afternoon, some rather surprising news emerged from France that Konstantinos Mavropanos had failed his medical to sign for West Ham United.
It was explained that while the deal wasn’t entirely off, there was a chance the Hammers could pull the plug.
However, the latest from Fussball Transfers on the matter, the Greek centre-back’s transfer to West Ham isn’t dead in the water just quite yet.
They explain that sources close to the Premier League club told them at Mavropanos ‘has failed the medical check’, but they have not ‘definitively cancelled the transfer’.
Instead, West Ham want to ‘renegotiate’ the deal with VfB Stuttgart for their player, and the idea is for the transfer fee to be ‘adjusted’ in order for everyone to be happy.
This is very similar to what happened when Aston Villa had some doubts about Nicolo Zaniolo’s physical status when he underwent a medical for his move from Galatasaray, but an agreement was quickly found after that with a quick negotiation smoothing everything over.
That means David Moyes could still get his new West Ham centre-back in the very near future.
