Tottenham and West Ham are set to battle with Atletico Madrid for Spezia defender Jakub Kiwior, who is currently at the World Cup with Poland.

That’s according to Fichajes, who name the Premier League duo as part of the growing competition for the 22-year-old.

They say that Atletico are looking to solve the problems they’re currently having in their defence, with Diego Simeone convinced he needs reinforcements to play the three at the back formation he wants.

The plan is to sell so they can make room in their finances to bring someone in and Kiwior is one of the players on their list.

The Spanish side are not the only interested party, though, with as many as six sides in Europe considering a move.

Tottenham and West Ham are among the suitors, with it explained the Hammers are looking to the January transfer window to improve their prospects.

They spent big in the summer improving their defence with signings such as Nayef Aguerd and Thilo Kehrer but have continued to be linked with defenders regardless.

Kiwior is the latest, with it stated that West Ham are eyeing up a deal to help them turn things around and get out of their current ‘ugly position’ in the table.

Tottenham, meanwhile, are looking at the defender as a potential replacement for Japhet Tanganga, who has ‘many teams’ interested in him.

The 22-year-old Polish international could be his replacement and his €6m asking price would mean he could be ‘very profitable’ for Tottenham down the line.

The London duo face competition from Atletico for his signature, as well as Juventus, Roma, AC Milan and Villarreal who are all ‘bidding’ too and presumably watching Kiwior during his time in Qatar.
