West Ham United were also interested in a deal for Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapié this summer.
That’s according to Fussball Transfers, who say that West Ham were ready to compete with Liverpool for his signature after his agent admitted talks with the Reds over the Ecuadorian.
Hincapié’s agent, Manuel Sierra, admitted this week that Liverpool had been interested in his client this summer but eventually abandoned any ideas about a move in favour of strengthening their midfield.
Those comments have naturally been picked up and covered all over Europe, with Sierra later clarifying that the Reds are just one of several sides keeping an eye on his client.
Fussball Transfers now follow that up and saying, according to their information, there was interest from RB Leipzig and West Ham too.
That’s something we saw reported once in the summer, with one claim in August stating that they wanted to sign the defender and director of football Tim Steidten was a big fan.
The Hammers eyes were very much on the Bundesliga this summer thanks to his arrival, with them eventually doing a deal to sign Konstantinos Mavropanos instead.
Whether that’s because a move for Hincapié didn’t appear to be one worth pursuing or for another reason isn’t clear, but it seems the interest was there, alongside that coming from Liverpool.
