West Ham United will face tough competition from AS Monaco in the race for Juventus’ Denis Zakaria, according to reports from Italy.
The midfielder returned to the Serie A side after a loan spell at Chelsea last season and his club are now looking to get rid of him permanently.
That’s according to Calciomercato, who cover West Ham and Monaco efforts to sign him.
It’s said the Hammers are ‘stuck’ at their last offer of around €12-13m and the Ligue 1 side have also matched the London club’s proposal. Juve’s demands aren’t mentioned but the report states these two offers are ‘not enough’ for them.
Monaco appointed Adi Hütter as their new manager last month and he managed Zakaria at Borussia Mönchengladbach. He wants to reunite with the Switzerland international.
That’s according to Corriere dello Sport, who state Monaco have intensified contacts with both the Old Lady and the player. It’s even claimed they are overtaking David Moyes’ side in the race to sign Zakaria.
West Ham sold Declan Rice to Arsenal for a British record fee on July 15th and are yet to find his successor. If the London club miss out on Zakaria, they’ll have to look elsewhere to replace Rice.
