West Ham United are a ‘serious candidate’ for Ajax midfielder Edson Álvarez and have ‘reported to’ the Dutch club in an attempt to get a deal done.
That’s according to Voetbal International, who continue the reports from earlier today that West Ham have reignited their interest in the Mexican.
A report from De Telegraaf earlier today stated that Álvarez had verbally agreed to join the Hammers this summer and they were expected to start formal negotiations soon.
They claimed that West Ham would send a written offer later today and VI now pick up on that and provide their own information.
The newspaper reports that it is clear Álvarez is ‘betting on a departure’ from Ajax this summer and West Ham are a ‘serious candidate’ for him.
Ajax are currently ‘in a battle’ with their Premier League counterparts about the transfer fee and are anticipating a first offer arriving soon.
They believe the initial bid will be worth €30m, but Ajax are betting on securing ‘a lot more’ for the player if they are to sell this summer. They back up reports that Álvarez has agreed on a five-year deal at the London Stadium.
Ajax and West Ham are yet to take a seat at the negotiating table for the midfielder but there is a deal there to be done as Álvarez wants out after four years in Amsterdam.
It’s now up to the Hammers to make a formal bid that satisfies Ajax’s demands, although initial reports are that they’ll need more than the €30m reports elsewhere have stated they want to pay.
