West Ham United have seen an offer for Santos striker Marcos Leonardo rejected by the Brazilian club, who believe the terms included weren’t realistic.
That’s according to journalist Venê Casagrande, who says the offer was submitted 11 days ago as the Hammers try to improve their forward line this month.
According to his information, West Ham tried to sign Leonardo on an initial loan deal, for which they would pay €3m and have an €11m purchase clause for the summer.
That offer included €1m in bonuses per year if he plays 60% of the games and 10% on any future sale for the 19-year-old.
This was swiftly rejected by Santos as they thought that the obligation clause was ‘difficult to achieve’. In other words, they did not think that West Ham would ever end up signing the forward permanently.
Whether West Ham will return for the Brazilian forward isn’t made clear, although it seems unlikely given they signed Danny Ings three days after the bid for Leonardo was reportedly lodged.
They have been targeting numerous forwards this month, though, so Leonardo’s name may be worth keeping an eye as we get closer to the end of the window.
